I imagine Abraham had a similar thought as he brought Isaac to be sacrificed.

And what does it look like specifically to place something in God's hands.

Let's say a boss needs to fire someone. How can he/she put that decision in God's hands?

Is it just a matter of praying about it?

Woa, talk about someone who laid it on the line. At the Diet of Worms (I know, weird city name) Luther faced a death penalty unless he recanted his criticisms of the Church (Catholic of course - pretty much all there was at the time)

He thought all night and gave his answer. "Here I stand, I can do no other."

That's an example of profound faith. I pay attention to anything Luther had to say.

Craver,

It's no wonder that Abraham is listed in Hebrews 11 in the faith "hall of fame"...and that he's the subject of a popular Sunday School choruses. ;-)

Mark,

I think it's about trust. To take Craver's example, Abraham trusted that God would raise Isaac and fulfill his promise. I don't know the answer to your particular example but Luther's quote brings to mind the reward of trusting God when we're called upon to sacrifice.

RLP,

"I pay attention to anything Luther had to say" - Given the way God uniquely used him for the work of Reformation, I'd say that you're spot on. Even though you didn't intend it as such, it's good advice
