Quote of the Week

"It's natural and healthy to hope for ourselves, but it's provincial and unhealthy to hope only for ourselves. Egocentric persons curve in on themselves. With only their own interests at heart, and only their own futures in view, they eventually harden themselves into a small, snail-like shell... But the person who keeps her head up so that she can look out toward the future of others - this is a person with some range to her hope. This is a person who has been enlarged by the Holy Spirit."

Cornelius Plantinga, Engaging God's World, p.12

Amen! I love it when he comes to speak in our chapel at work. The last time the Spirit was on him so powerfully and it was like hearing a message from an apostle. Great content.

And oh yeah, the quote. I couldn't agree more. The Philippians passage says we're not to be looking to our own interests period, but only to the interests of others, as we more and more together develop the attitude of mind of Christ Jesus.

It does look like a very interesting book, ESI. I clicked to the link and was able to read the preface and part of the first chapter - one to put on my "to read" list! Thanks for posting.
