"The fact that earth is not our ultimate home explains why we experience difficulty, sorrow, and rejection in this world. It also explains why some of God’s promises seem unfulfilled, some prayers seem unanswered, and some circumstances seem unfair. This is not the end of the story."

Good point. I think Rick Warren means, or at least I would mean this world's order is not our home. I do indeed believe that earth indeed is our home, and will be so when heaven and earth become one in Jesus in the resurrection at the culmination of the new creation.
Indeed, then all will be made right, and new.
I think the biggest point he makes is in opposition to the various strains of the sadly popular health/wealth gospel preachers... the fact is sometimes our prayers seem unanswered and our hopes remain unfulfilled in this life.
