Quote of the Week

"Do you not see that if the richer you get and the more often you go to the Cross, it will be safe for you to be trusted with wealth?   Take care to sanctify everything that God gives you by giving Him His proper portion and do not use your own portion till you have given Him His"

Great counsel no matter where we find ourselves on the wealth scale.

Craver - absolutely, it is advice suitable for all. Also, many of us in the Western Hemisphere are in fact wealthy relative to most in the developing nations.

Great cousel for the rest of our lives too - I wonder exactly what it means to "go to the Cross" and what that looks like on a daily basis in my life.

Halfmom, to me "go to the Cross" means preaching the gospel to myself. It means reminding myself of his glorious grace and mercy in my life. it is reminding myself of 1Cor 4:17 -- For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?
Jerry Bridges gives the counsel to preach the gospel to yourself everyday in one of his books (maybe Disciplines of Grace)
i need to do this because i so quickly forget this great and saving truth. if i forget then the provision that God has given me gets spent on wood, hay and stubble
i do not know what Spurgeon had in his mind but that is what comes to my mind. hope that was helpful

Susan, Jimmy - I'm also not certain of what Spurgeon meant in the context of this quote but I've understood it to mean meditating on the work of Jesus Christ - what He accomplished by his death on the cross, the love that compelled him to sacrifice for us, the wealth of benefit we have in his death on our behalf.
