Quote of the Week

"I thank Thee first because I was never robbed before;  second, because although they took my purse, they did not take my life;  third, although they took my all, it was not much;  and fourth, because it was I who was robbed and not I who robbed."

Matthew Henry, his prayer on the night he was robbed

Amen. (I remember reading this before, I think). A wise quote from a man who evidently lived wisely.

Ted...
you beat me to the Amen.

phil-4:8 comes to mind.

Ted, mark - I love this verse because it is so unlike how I would think. It's provoking.

why did M.H. have this reaction?

could it be that he could feel the effects of the victorious blood of Christ? and that one of the effects was being freed to pray this?

i ask this bcs for the first time in my professional history, i have experienced a victory over writing an xml script... my boss said "COOL!!!" to the elegance of the result.

this experience has even affected the way i walk.

now for a petty victory over something simple like xml to have such a profound effect apon other areas of my life... does it not seem reasonable that the more we experience the things that God has revealed to be true, the more we will also behave differently due to behavior being driven so much by how we feel?

mark - good question. I'm guessing here but I suspect that MH responded this way because he was keenly aware of the gospel in a real, practical way. His prayer is infused with gratitude - perhaps because he knows that the loss of earthly wealth cannot compare with the better treasure he possesses in Christ... perhaps because he has been spared not only harm on earth but also the ultimate harm of being judged for his sins?

Just guessing

"keenly aware of the gospel in a real, practical way"

what a great quote, in and of itself - and exactly the way I want to live!
