So, does Leland think this is what work in heaven will be like?
Jimmy - don't know what Leland Ryken thinks but this was in the context of describing God's view of work.
I do think we can experience something of that now in the works God has for us in Jesus. I like the way John Wimber put it (though philosophically it may have some problems, it hits the nail on the head for me), "naturally supernatural." It is a part of who we are, or simply what we do, an expression of us.
In the new heaven and new earth which I take as the final state, this will certainly be perfected and a large part of our existence there, from what little we can gather from Scripture.
I'd have to add that toil and doing God's work in our weakness just seems inherent in this existence. What we do may be an expression of who we are, but what we are now are people in process and sometimes struggling with a faith that is assailed with living in an existence of the world, the flesh and the devil.
