The world is divided into two kinds of people - dog people and cat people. From the perspective of a dog lover, cats are fickle, selfish and undependable... while dogs are loving, brave and utterly loyal.
Confirming those stereotypes is this AP story - Dog Saves Man in Fire Blamed on Cat.
GREENVILLE, Maine (Oct. 10) - Thumper, a black Labrador retriever, is getting credit for saving a Greenville man when a fire swept through his home. Roland Cote said his wife and their 7-year-old grandson were away when the blaze started early Sunday in a converted two-story garage. He said Thumper grabbed him by the arm to wake him, leaving just enough time for him to dial 911 before fleeing the fast-moving fire. While the dog is the hero, a cat is the bad guy in this story. Cote said the fire marshal investigator believes the blaze was started when Princess, the family cat, tipped over a kerosene lantern. Cote says he and his pets escaped safely, but he says Princess did get her tail singed by the flames.
What do you cat people (you know who you are) have to say about this?

Umh, someone told me once that people loved dogs because they did, or could be trained, to do what they were told; cats on the other hand, were quite independent creatures and were only liked by non-dictatorial people.
Speaking as a dog-lover, cat neutral (and allergic) at best, it sort of made me cringe!
Whoa... hold on a second. Since when do cats go tipping things over? I have had several dogs AND cats over the years, and it is always the dogs who investigate by tipping things over. Cats are way too cool for that. I think the cat was framed and the dog is afraid of what the master will think if he discovers who REALLY started the fire. Did anyone even think to ASK the dog? They should try that, 'cause dogs are terrible liars. Cats, on the other hand, never feel the urge to lie. They simply don't care what anyone thinks. I'm okay with that.
susan,
So, dogs are submissive and obedient while cats are rebellious. ;-)
craver,
i have the feeling they didn't ask Thumper - but being the loyal, morally superior creatures that dogs are compared to cats...
I guess it depends on the cat or dog, pros and cons with either.
I like the stuffed kinds best, though.
